    Dashboard Modules – week #12

It seems to be last post in this format – 12 is the final week.

So working around last details suggested by John, preparing the modules to be real WordPress plugins ( adding read me and screenshots ), looking for few more tests, adding domains for localizations, fixing few text errors and other small fixes.

So looking around in the code, final arrangements, active interaction with mentor ( like every day ) – this is last things that will be done this week. Deadline I plan to have small vacation and  already after vacation to do some other things in/for WordPress, and right now thinking about few improvement ideas.

Good luck everyone, and have good time!

API Stream Wrappers – Week 12

The final week is upon us :-) I’ve been spending my time refining and cleaning up the code, fixing grammatical mistakes in the documentation, and other remaining loose end. I took a crack at the wiki documentation to help ease understanding of the plugin and how it fits into the WordPress ecosystem. I’m also working on getting doxygen to whip up some nice documentation which I will eventually put on the GitHub project web site until a more permanent home is found.

Come Monday (the firm pencils down date) I will tag the code and make sure Subversion is in sync. There’s still quite a bit to do before the true benefits of stream wrappers are realized, but that effort is out of the scope of this project and will continue onwards separately :-D

I love Stream Wrapper. Thanks for taking care. I thought to write something that hooks on file:// just by default … :)

That’s odd… I just got an email notification of your comment today… Yep, 2 years behind schedule.

Wish I could spend more time on this, [school/life/loans and whatnot]. If you need to make any changes or find bugs in the code be sure to send a pull request on GitHub and I’ll get it incorporated at least. And if you have a plugin which depends on this one update the wiki to mention it.

      Cheers!

Not much to report this week. Wrapping up as the pencils down date approaches.

I did further UI work with Jane on the home page. I also did some code polishing. I will wrap the week up by doing a final sweep of the code and then enjoying a vacation in the mountains of WV.

I’m very happy with how the project went and will have a beta version available once it is at that level. Be expecting future updates and developments on the project outside of GSoC.

    Good luck everyone!

Last week began the final stretch. Following the release of the preview, I focused on finding and fixing bugs and preparing the final features. Amongst other things, I updated the highlight widget to allow users to preview which elements match a given selector (hovering a selector in the list shows all matching elements).

Earlier today I spoke with Beau about the goals for the final project (and accomplished some bug-squashing to boot). We decided that this week I should focus on implementing the last few critical editing features (adding/editing/removing selectors and properties, the point-and-select UI) and improving theme compatibility (accounting for CSS @rules and potentially including @import rules in the model). The editing features are well on their way, and if all goes well @rules should fit into the model nicely. I’d like to provide a method to recompile the output—however, this is likely non-trivial and may have to wait until a later version.

    Good luck, everyone!

    Pencils down

This week I added the security token to all requests and fixed up some big UI problems. It should be easy enough and secure enough for an initial release – I’ll be uploading it to the WordPress Plugin Directory soon.

I’ll only be doing code cleaning, bug fixes, security fixes, etc. for this next week. Please get in contact if you want anything fixed.

The last week: I gave a demo of EventPress (both in BuddyPress and WordPress) which you can check out at http://kunal-b.in/eventpress-demo/wp/ and http://kunal-b.in/eventpress-demo/bp/ with username/password as demo/demo.

There were a few features missing pointed out/suggestions by Jane, and others in the chat which are listed out here: http://gsocevents.wordpress.com/, which is essentially what I’ll be working on and ironing out this week.

Apart from that, there’s a complete collection of screenshots and stuff at http://kunal-b.in/eventpress.

Woow this looks so exiting! Can’t wait till the official release!

Looks good. Will there be both calendar and list views? And will the visual style be made consistent with WordPress/BuddyPress?

    • Dave L 3:33 pm on August 16, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Also, are group-specific events a planned feature?

    • kunalb 10:02 pm on August 17, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Calendar and list view pages are auto-generated but not published, leaving that as an option for you to choose. If you’re using modified permalinks, then /events/ will also be mapped to a list of events.

I’ve tried to keep the colours/formatting like WP/BP, but I guess it definitely needs some CSS love.

Limited registration to people belonging to a specific group was planned for this release itself, but there was only so much I could manage. If I can squeeze it in by Friday, possibly now itself; otherwise in the next version.

Sorry for the late update ;) Preparing for the end of the project – again, the last week will be probably the most productive one, as I tend to wait with submitting the patches for the last minute. Besides, everything goes very well (except for the weather ;( ).

    Comment Improvements – Week #11

It’s been a fairly unproductive week for me. I did some minor UI tweaks, but nothing too serious. Things are starting to look a bit better, progress-wise, though. The project has come a long way since the days of being print_r() junk.

And that scary deadline is getting closer than I would like. :)

    Ajaxify Admin – Week 11

Ajaxifying the bulk actions dropdown turned out to be far from straightforward, so I dropped it, since it’s too close to final evaluation to get it right.

So, I’m doing a final sweep before my IRC presentation on monday. After that, I’ll try to get in touch with the 3.org teams to see if I can be of any help there.

Sorry for posting this a day ahead, but I’ll be offline during this weekend, in the mountains at FLOSSCamp, an independent event held by Free Software enthusiasts at 3rd edition.

So my progress for this week:

    • Added responses/answers to assignments ( Jane’s request )
    • Added contextual help screen with recommended list of plugins, and a placeholder for future help content ( Boone’s request )
    • Added a new option that allows loading a CSS automatically from your theme folder where you can add styling to your Courseware ( Jeremy’s request )
    • Added iCal export to schedules screen ( Justin’s request )

Now I’m working on the last two things:

    • Finish notifications/activity streams.
    • Finish dashboards

Also the look of the whole Courseware will be changed, hopefully in a better way :)
