    Dashboard Modules – week #12

It seems to be last post in this format – 12 is the final week.

So working around last details suggested by John, preparing the modules to be real WordPress plugins ( adding read me and screenshots ), looking for few more tests, adding domains for localizations, fixing few text errors and other small fixes.

So looking around in the code, final arrangements, active interaction with mentor ( like every day ) – this is last things that will be done this week. Deadline I plan to have small vacation and  already after vacation to do some other things in/for WordPress, and right now thinking about few improvement ideas.

Good luck everyone, and have good time!

    Dashboard Modules – week #11

Is summer, is august, and I caught a cold. This is second time in my life when I am sick in the summer. But this wasn’t a problem to meet with Stas and other guy who also work with WP and to speak on IT topic : ).

With modules I am almost finished, just have to revise few todo’s from code. Also added few more comments to functions not to get lost between them. Also started some things about which I spoke as about additional scope things, so will see how successful are those ideas.

    Dashboard Modules – week #10

Looking back to last week I have such feeling that I’m not moving, and thats because of working around code but not functionality, changing and improving small things, replacing bunches of code with lines of code and so on. But I feel that few more days on this routine and I can move to last point from my scope where are more diverse ideas, and even if those ideas are about small improvements, they can have huge impact to general image on WP ( am I dreaming? : ).

About few ( more exactly 2 ) small improvements for QuickPress module are tags sugestions and categories into two tabs: all categoris and most used ( at the beginning it was just only a list with all categories, after I was thinking how to add also most used cats into here, and after trying few ideas, best was this from post editing ).

    Dashboard Modules – week #9

This week was more silent and without any interesting things in real life, so I spent good time at computer.

So at the beginning of the week I was doing some code cleaning and applying codex rules of codding, some testings and fixing few possible “bad behaviors”, adding more escaping of data in some places where I forget to do it before. After I got back to functionality and started to add more small things which are described and not in scope ( but still in code I have few places with @TODO which are also improvements ). The same for JavaScript part – right now working on it to have better code and compatibility between modules.
And even if description is so small, the job what was done was bigger than in other weeks.

    Dashboard Modules – week #8

A quite busy week, first day started with leaving my home at 6 a.m. without any sleeping for 1 day, after – my first visit of Romania and 3 days flied as few awesome moments. A day of trainings, a day of working, and the last day : competition with ready machines and awarding – this is RoBEC in few words. Oh yes – our team didn’t get into first 3 places. But we had great time, meet cool people and had awesome experience.

After I was at few lessons about Computer Protocols in my country which is still going for few more days.

And yesterday, or today ( not sure if still in some countries is 14 of July ) was my birthday. Yey – now I have 21 and I can go to USA and use all my right as mature ( in our country maturity is at 18 ).

As this week I was less at PC, I did not so much work on my project, it was more based on playing around ajax to make it more simple and the same for all modules, cleaning some code pieces, few testings. But for tomorrow ( when I’ll get up ) I plan to make few more things suggested by John ( my mentor ), such as  moving CSS and JS into separate files ( it was a reason when I added it into the same file, but now really there is no need in this ), look one more time on data which need to be escaped ( yes, it is easy to forget sometimes to do it ), look one more time on WP coding standards  to review few things ( because of windows programming which I did few months, sometimes I am using whose rules of writing and arranging the code, other times I just can forget and use the rule that I like more, but standards are for sure very important point in open projects ).

That’s all for now, wait for updates today or tomorrow ( who knows how much I’ll sleep : )

    Dashboard Modules – week #7

Do you feel the summer? Me not, in my region last two weeks were only two and a half of sunny days, all other days only raining. What is more sad, prognoses shows five more days of raining…

And other interesting things – tomorrow I am going to RoBEC ( Romanian BEST Engineering Competition ) where I’ll spend few awesome days ( if somebody will be in Romania, Iasi – we can meet : )

About modules: added to QuickPress categories ( but it’s name is too big, so have to think how to solve this because “Cats” instead of  “Categories” seems to be not best choose ), also did some manipulations with Users module, and other small things. Also thinking about cleaning of my code, and mixing all ajax functions in one ( to make it universal ) because what I have now is already a bit hard to manipulate, and I don’t want to think about what will happen if to leave this “hard codding” to grow.

      What is wrong with “Categories”?

On my dashboard plugin for the suggestions theme I am using “Categorize” and it fits fine. Categories is the same length so I think either would be OK.

look to image “quickpress_2” and you’ll see where I wrote “Cats” instead of “Categories”

I would suggest using some live-completion magic input for that.

    Dashboard Modules – week #6

So still working around ajaxifing modules, doing some optimizations, reorganizations in what I did before. Right now I am implementing in all my modules ability to have full functionality even if ajax is not working or if  javascript is turned off.

If about images – I will show now Users Module

    Dashboard Modules – week #5

    Very diverse and cool week.

Everything  started with dieing of my hard disc on desktop just in next morning after posting of my weekly update. After using winXP a lot of years, I decided to move ( with such great occasion ) to win7. Maybe my HP is so pretentious but I’ll never do it again, so downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 and now I am free and happy ( of course need some time for to get in touch and get some skills – no wit will be my basic working OS ).

At Friday somehow finished with one friend one web-site for our university group and submitted it  to our local IT contest “iTineret”.

Also I finally got my welcome package – it is not so important, but it is pleasantly : )

But even if I loosed a good bunch of time on all this things, I did some work on my scope. How I sad in comment to stas, I was planning to update my svn in weekend, but at the beginning my new OS did a lot of problems ( the worst one was with my code editor and it’s connection to ftp ) which delayed a bit my work, and when I came back to codding on Users Module, I had to start to implement some ajax functions. But I tried to do it in a such a way that if JavaScript is off, this should not decrease modules functionalities, and I did it. Of course – principle is simple – if JavaScript is active, our script is changing events on buttons and stops from page jumping/redirecting, if not, it acts as we didn’t even know about JavaScript existence. Other thing was to implement this in modules in a such a way – not to have code repetitions ( thanks to WP rich api ).

So right now have to finish with implementation of such functionality to all modules, in the same time have to finish users module, and after this I plan to create one unique JavaScript function and maybe some small changes to dashboard api functions to do it more compatible.

    Dashboard Modules – week #4

Very soon will be longest day in this year – yeah, it is really summer!

So this week was mostly playing around finishing and doing small improvements on modules. Also some beginnings on performing configurations and some other thing via Ajax with keeping compatibility  of browsers with disabled javascript.

This week I am planning to have good defined method of configuring modules via Ajax, and to start to implement interaction (which is described in my scope) between modules .

      Hey Alex,
did you commit to svn the new updates, I’m eager to play with it.

Yeah, I wanted to finish with ajax and update stable version, but today my desktop PC crashed, and I have to repair it tomorrow, so sorry but I’ll do update already in weekend.
